Somatic Sweat: Mac Talla
Second Saturday of Every Month at 7pm
Service Description
Need a blank slate? Want to get out of your head and into your body? Release built-up layers of tension, grumpiness, doubt, and cynicism. Get freer, lighter, happier. This class is the middle ground between axe throwing and talk therapy. Without needing to say a word, you get to rest, move, participate or not. Your body leads the way, no explanations needed, no expectations. It's liberating. THIS CLASS MEETS ON THE SECOND SATURDAY OF EVERY MONTH AT 7pm. Oct 12 Nov 9 Dec 14 Jan 11 MUSIC: Expect to move to a new playlist every class. You will hear a massive variety of music with deep cuts from all genres. From ambient and classical to hip hop and electronica, each song connects to our irresistible need to move. EXAMPLES OF PAST THEMES: • Find a Way Through (obstacles block and free us) • Body Language is 70% of What We Say (so what is our body saying?) • Iron Wants to become Rust (sometimes things fall apart to get more stable) • Find Home on Your Frontier (Your body is your home) • What We Carry (we can let it go and pick it back up whenever we choose) • New Day (starting over happens over and over) CLASS STRUCTURE: While the class is set to music, there are no choreographed movements and you are not expected to dance (though some do). You might choose to follow the teacher's lead in repeating simple movements, and then wait for that movement to evolve. In this class we repeatedly return to our points of contact, breath and center. Each song will have a simple directive: rise/fall, push/pull, open/close. Feel free to use conventional, familiar forms (yoga poses, other exercises) or experiment with spontaneous gestures. An important feature of this approach is that it is SELF-PACED. At all times you are encouraged to be loyal to your body and what it needs. If you are not sure how to move, or get stuck in your head, copy the teacher’s movements, or repeat a very simple gesture, then wait for it to evolve. When we give whatever arises space, it eventually shifts and moves on. CLASS STRUCTURE: • Opening • Warm-Up (10 minutes/3 songs): Notice your points of contact. Breathe. Follow your breath • Core (1 song): Connect to your center • Rise/Fall (1 song): Get your blood flowing • Side to Side/Push/Pull (1 song) • Open/Close (1 song) • Anchor/Interact (silence) • Repeat/Release (2-3 high energy songs) • Heart Opening (1 song) • Re-grounding/Quieting/Centering (1 song) • Cool Down (1-2 songs) • Savasana/Yoga Nidra (1 long song) • Close
